From Injury to Independence
Meet Mrs. Oluseyi Abdullahi
Founder: Crafties Hobby-Craft Ltd.
For years, I was able to zip up my dresses by myself.
However, after a shoulder injury, I could no longer do so.
My husband and son stepped in to help, but one day when I was alone, I had to ask a passerby for assistance.
During a conversation with some women friends, I came to the realization that the inability to zip up or down without aid is a significant challenge faced by women around the globe.
I had to do something!
I knew I had to find a solution. As a crafter, jewellery artist, and fashion designer, I began to experiment with different materials to create a tool that could help me.
When I learned that I would need physiotherapy to aid my recovery, I didn’t want a male physiotherapist to help me unzip, nor did I want a nurse to be assigned to me.
After some experimentation, I came up with a design that worked for some types of zippers but not others.
The invisible zipper proved to be the most challenging, and I was getting desperate.
Then, I had a breakthrough moment – the addition of O-rings made all the difference! However, fixing the O-rings could be challenging, so I prayed for a tool that could make the process easier.
And, as if by magic, the answer came to me.
I’m thrilled to report that the O-rings can now be easily affixed to invisible zips, and I no longer need help zipping up my dresses.
Even my physiotherapist was impressed!
